The Overlay Ring is a one-of-a-kind piece and the culmination of a season of learning hand engraving with master engraver Malcolm Appleby. Made entirely from Scottish panned gold, sourced from riverbeds in Perthshire and Aberdeenshire, the gold was alloyed by Alison in her atelier before being milled and formed by hand. A concave oval sits above the band, wrapped in overlapping, petal-like forms, each engraved beneath the microscope with fine lines that catch the light like dappled sunshine filtering through woodland leaves. Rooted in Alison’s fascination with pattern and natural structures, the ring brings together a new skill, a rare material and her distinctive visual language. It is a record of time, place and the journey of learning, carrying a tangible connection to the Scottish landscape and the craft traditions that shaped it.
